How Much Does a Power Rack Cost? Real Prices by Rack Type

BUILT Strength Foundation Series Full Cage Power Rack and BUILT Strength Foundation Series Half Rack V2 in a cream plaster room with backlit arches and a black and cream checkerboard floor

A new commercial-grade power rack costs about $1,045 to $1,595, a remanufactured commercial rack from a brand like Hoist, Torque, or Precor costs about $1,195 to $2,995, and an all in one rack with a Smith machine and cables runs about $4,495. Those are real listed prices from our catalog for the BUILT Strength Foundation Series and remanufactured racks. The rack is only part of the bill, though. Plan for a bar, plates, flooring, and delivery before you call the price final.

How much does a power rack cost by type?

Price follows three things: how much steel is in the frame, what ships in the box, and whether it is new or remanufactured. Here is what each type costs on our site right now (prices listed at the time of writing and can change, so check each product page):

Rack type Example Price Frame weight What you get

The short version: if you want a full cage you can train alone in, the $1,045 Foundation Series Full Cage Power Rack is the lowest-priced full cage we list. If you want a heavier commercial frame for less than new, a remanufactured cage like the Hoist lands close to the same price with about 150 lb more steel. Browse every option in our power racks collection.

Why do some power racks cost twice as much as others?

Most of the price gap comes down to steel. The Foundation Series Full Cage weighs 287 lb. The remanufactured Precor Discovery Series Power Rack weighs 613 lb. More steel means thicker uprights, a wider base, higher load ratings, and more freight weight to ship, and all of that shows up in the price.

The rest of the gap comes from what is included:

  • Safeties and J-cups. Some racks ship with them and some sell them separately. A rack that looks cheaper can end up costing more once you add the parts that let you train safely.
  • Adjustment details. Numbered inserts, like on the Full Cage V2, let you match both sides fast. Tighter hole spacing lets you set the bar exactly where you want it.
  • Plate storage. Weight horns on the frame, like the 12 on the Half Rack V2, save you from buying a separate plate tree.
  • Pull-up bar and band pegs. Small on paper, but buying them later as add ons costs more than getting them built in.

Light-duty consumer racks sold elsewhere can cost less up front. The tradeoff is usually thinner steel, lower load ratings, wider hole spacing, and safeties sold as extras. If you plan to lift heavy alone, that is where saving money stops making sense.

What else do you pay for besides the rack?

Flat infographic of the real cost of a power rack: the rack plus bar and plates, plus attachments, plus flooring, plus delivery, equals your total

The rack is the first line on the bill, not the last. Here is what to budget for:

  • Bar and plates. A BUILT Strength Foundation Series Olympic Barbell (New) starts at $155, and a starter set of 175 lb of BUILT Strength Foundation Series Weight Plates (two each of 45, 25, 10, 5, and 2.5 lb) adds about $429 at listed prices. That is about $584 for the bar and plates together.
  • A bench. Most people bench inside the rack, so an adjustable bench is the usual next buy.
  • Attachments. Dip bars, landmines, and extra spotter arms. Check what ships with your rack first so you do not pay twice.
  • Flooring. Rubber tiles or a lifting platform protect the floor and the rack base. Budget for enough to cover the footprint plus room to load plates.
  • Delivery. A 300 to 900 lb rack ships by freight. Curbside, inside, and installed delivery each cost a different amount. Our shipping and installation checklist explains what each level includes, and our nationwide curbside delivery page covers the basics.

Is a remanufactured power rack worth it?

For a lot of buyers, yes. A remanufactured commercial rack gives you a frame that was built for a gym floor, often with far more steel than a new rack at the same price. The Hoist Fitness Power Cage at $1,195 weighs 434 lb, and the Torque Fitness X-Series Half Cage (Remanufactured) at $1,495 runs on 3 in x 3 in 11-gauge uprights at 450 lb.

The catch is footprint. Commercial frames are bigger. The Hoist cage takes 71 in x 86.25 in of floor, compared with 52 in x 52 in for the Foundation Series Full Cage. Measure before you buy. To see what remanufactured actually means, read our used vs remanufactured guide or browse remanufactured strength equipment.

Is a full cage or a half rack better value?

On our site, a full cage is the cheaper way in. The Foundation Series Full Cage starts at $1,045, while the Foundation Series Half Rack V2 is $1,595 with 12 weight horns and a multi-grip pull-up bar. A full cage is the better buy for solo heavy lifting in a tight room. A half rack is the better buy when you want open access, built-in plate storage, or a rack that several people share. For the full breakdown, see power rack vs half rack, and if you are also weighing a Smith machine, read power rack vs Smith machine.

How do you keep a power rack purchase on budget?

  • Compare what is included, not just the sticker. Safeties, J-cups, and a pull-up bar can add up fast if they are sold separately.
  • Measure ceiling height first. Our racks run 87 to 98.5 in tall. A rack that does not fit is the most expensive rack there is.
  • Buy for the weight you will lift in a few years. Upgrading later costs more than buying the right frame once.
  • Spread out the cost if it helps. See our financing options.

Power rack cost FAQ

How much should I spend on a power rack?

If you plan to lift heavy without a spotter, plan on about $1,000 to $1,600 for a new commercial-grade rack with safeties included, or about $1,200 to $3,000 for a remanufactured commercial rack.

Why are commercial power racks so expensive?

They use much more steel. Commercial racks often weigh 400 to 600 lb or more, carry higher load ratings, and cost more to ship by freight.

Does a power rack come with safeties?

It depends on the rack. The BUILT Strength Foundation Series Full Cage Power Rack includes J-cups and spotter bars. Always check the product page, because some racks sell safeties separately.

Is a cheap power rack safe?

A low price alone does not make a rack unsafe, but light-duty racks often have lower load ratings and safeties sold as extras. Match the load rating to what you will lift and always train with safeties set.

How much does a power rack cost with weights?

Adding a bar and a 175 lb plate set adds about $584 at our listed prices, so a $1,045 full cage with a bar and plates comes to about $1,629 before a bench, flooring, and delivery.

Is a used power rack worth buying?

A remanufactured commercial rack is often a better value than a new light-duty rack, because you get a heavier commercial frame at a similar price, plus support after the sale.
